Pillar: Communications
How effective are you as a communicator? What about your school or district? Identify areas where improvement is needed and action steps to get there.
Based on the characteristics of an effective communicator provided by Sheninger (2019), including attentive listening, fostering dialogue, asking questions, getting directly to the point quickly, and providing an open environment for discussion with my students, I can communicate clearly. I do not, however, communicate effectively with the families. In order for improvement, I need to intentionally promote conversation and foster an open environment in order to communicate with families and students in a successful manner. Additionally, I would make better use of my social media profiles to open up more channels for communication. I could create social media profiles for professional use.
I believe that our district communicates with its stakeholders in an effective manner. There is never such a thing as too much communication, despite the fact that at times it may feel that way with the district. Our district uses social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X to offer a variety of communication channels. They utilize Canvas and Blackboard, in addition to social media, to phone and text their stakeholders. Additionally, the district has a user-friendly and well-organized website that makes it simple for any stakeholder or visitor to learn about the district, schools, and resources they provide.
